General FAQs

What's the difference between traditional stone veneer and thinstone?

Both are 100% natural stone products. Traditional stone veneer is what we refer to as full thickness; cut to be 4″ to 6″ in thickness. The weight of the product requires a supporting ledge or footer for installation. Thin stone is a veneer cut to 1 to 1 1/2? in thickness. At this thickness, no footer is required. You’ll use less material and installation is easier and faster than the full thickness veneer. If you are remodeling (replacing stucco, brick, or siding with stone), then you will most likely need to use thin stone veneer.

How is manufactured stone different from thinstone?

Manufactured stone is man-made or fake. It is cast from cement in molds and hand-colored with iron oxide pigments. It is designed to imitate the aesthetic of natural stone. Thin stone is 100% natural, colorfast, and is not affected by salt air. Unlike manufactured stone, it will not fade or discolor with time and is not affected by scratching and chipping of the surface.

How imuch does veneer stone cost?

Pricing will vary according to quantity and distance to ship. Your local dealer will be a great resource to help you decide on the most appropriate stone and to coordinate shipping to reduce overall transportation costs.

How do I calculate my stone requirements for stone veneer?

As a general guideline, you’ll want to measure the height and width of the area you intend to cover. Measure the length of any corners from top to bottom. Add 10% for waste. Let your dealer help to ensure you order enough stone for your project.
